UnionPay International Announces Enhanced CX Strategy in South Africa

UnionPay International has announced a tripartite partnership with Absa Bank and Massmark to enhance its customer experience in the South African retail payment market. Thanks to this partnership, many stores in South Africa will accept UnionPay cards.

“We are delighted and grateful to have support from some of the strongest retail brands in the country,” Luping Zhang, General Manager of UnionPay International Africa Branch said in a statement to IBSintelligence. “UnionPay continues to work with retailers of all sizes to enable their point-of-sales across the country to offer easy, convenient and secure payment services to a growing market of UnionPay cardholders living and working in South Africa.”

Karin Mathebula, Managing Executive at Absa Bank, said they have been looking for ways to improve the payment experience of customers.

“We are pleased to partner with UnionPay and Massmart to provide customers with more innovative card solutions,” Mathebula said.

UnionPay is a Chinese financial services corporation based in Shanghai. It offers bank card services in mainland China. It also partnered with companies around the world to increase its acceptance. It has expanded its acceptance network from 70 countries and regions to 180 in recent years. Now, UnionPay cards have been widely accepted across all sectors in countries in Africa, such as Kenya and Tanzania.
