Environment Is Now a Top Consumer Concern, Says Study

Consumers have ranked the health of the planet at the top of their priorities for the food and beverage industry in 2022, shows a new survey by Innova Market Insights. The consumers placed the planet’s health even over their own personal health.

The company has published the Top Ten Trends for 2022 earlier this month. Plant-based food and beverages rank in second place according to the survey. These are significant shift that see global issues such as the environment take center stage.

Where food choices are concerned, the top two categories in the study were “reducing waste” and “eating in moderation” respectively, with 43% and 32% or respondents having affirmed this choice.

This shift in perspective towards ecological sustainability is a must-have attitude for any business looking to keep their place in the future market, since consumers are more and more shifting their focus towards sustainability and environmental concerns when deciding which brands to purchase from and which to avoid. Ethics in the information age, where the darker sides of international business are not so easily hidden, are becoming more and more relevant.

It is likely that the COVID-19 pandemic has had an effect on consumers’ perspective. People have now become more aware of how globalized the world is, and how the entire planet can be affected by the same issues, such as natural disasters and pandemics.
